Recent Events
SABIC Demo

This summer, on June 19, CRyptonite students and mentors hosted representatives from the petrochemical manufacturing company SABIC at the Robert Shaw Center (RSC). The group showed SABIC more about how all five KatyISD FRC teams use the RSC, its many working spaces, and its shared tools.
Recently, SABIC informed us they would be making a $10,000 donation to the RSC. The donation will be used to purchase shared manufacturing tools and machines for all the KatyISD FRC teams. We are very grateful for SABIC’s generosity!
CRyptonite Team Social and Open House

Our team social was Saturday, September 7, from 5:30 to 9 pm. New students and parents were able to tour our bay in the RSC and learn more about 624 and our build site, and returning members demoed last year’s robot, Impulse, as well as our frisbee shooting robot, Thor, on the practice field.
After a potluck dinner served promptly at 6:24 p.m., students played a Kahoot that introduced new members to different aspects of the team and ultimate Frisbee while parents attended a meeting to go over some of the logistics of joining 624.

Fall Season Training

On September 12, Team 624 started our first round of safety training, lead by our VP of Safety and Training, Emma Smith, with the assistance of safety deputies, Sasha Robinson, Leo Varveropoulos, and Isabella Conti. The training began with a short presentation by Emma Smith, followed by the 624 safety test for returning members. After the initial presentation, new members completed a training over tools such as the drill press and band saw. Since September 12, we have had safety training once a week, and they have been a huge success! Over 75 students have been trained so far, and we look forward to getting all new and returning members safety trained!

After students have completed their safety training, they are encouraged to participate in the training of various sub-teams, and learn about the different aspects of our team. Recently sub-teams such as Video and Photography, Electrical, and Scouting App have had training sessions to teach newly interested members about how to participate in what they accomplish for Team 624.

Preparing for Remix

Team 624 is gearing up for our last off-season event, Houston Robot ReMix, on October 26, at College Park High School in the Woodlands. The tournament will be hosted by Team 1477, Texas Torque, with Team 624 cohosting by helping out in Pit Management and Queuing. Mentor and Students will be helping make ReMix a success!

One of the changes we are implementing is a brand new cargo and hatch intake designed for increased speed and durability without the pass-over that scores on either side of our elevator. The new intake was designed to be simpler and easier to manually control and troubleshoot. The design brings the mass of the game pieces closer towards the center of the mass of the robot. Additionally, it allows us to play both defense and offense.
