Recent Events
Halloween Food Drive
On October 31st from 5-8pm, members gathered canned goods and other non-perishable items for Katy Christian Ministries, a local nonprofit organization. Students collected over 660 pounds of goods for donation, aiding families and those in need. We are very thankful to have this opportunity to aid our community and give back during the fall season!
Family Night at Chick-Fil-A
On October 1st from 5-7 pm, Team 624 students demonstrated four unique types of robots to elementary students at Chick-Fil-A’s Family Night. The young students had a blast learning how to drive, program, and build the various robots around mazes and obstacle courses. Students also learned about the robots Team 624 creates, and future opportunities to get involved in STEM.

Success at Remix Offseason Competition!

CRyptonite co-hosted and competed at the Remix Off Season event in The Woodlands on the last weekend of October. Twenty team members helped operate and repair the bot, took videos and photos and scouted other teams.

As co-hosts, many team members also volunteered to reset the field and fill key roles such as queuing and pit administration. In the end, CRyptonite reached the semi-finals with our good friends 1477, Texas Torque, and 5892, Energy Heros, taking home lessons and ideas for the upcoming season.

BP Hosts CRyptonite at Houston Open
CRyptonite represented our founding Sponsor, BP, at the Houston Open Golf Tournament in Humble, Texas. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with team robots and learn about CRyponite’s influence on surrounding FLL and FRC teams. A huge thank you to BP for providing us with this unique demo opportunity!
MTS Barbecue Demo
On November 7th, Team 624 participated in the Marine Technological Society Barbecue, showing off two of our robots, Sidewinder and Thor. CRyptonite students enjoyed excellent barbecue while sharing their experiences in FIRST robotics and learning about underwater technologies from the 60 other exhibitors.

Science Day Camp

On Saturday, November 16th, Team 624 hosted our 11th annual Science Day Camp. This was the second Science Day Camp we held this year, where we taught 80 students about different STEM fields.  Held in the Robert Shaw Center, there were six stations lead by our student volunteers exploring fields such as programming, robotics, chemistry, biomedical, civil, and mechanical engineering.

Like the first Science Day Camp this year, students went to the various stations to unlock “clues” to solve the mystery of “who stole the robot,” our theme for the camp. We are grateful to have such an impact on our community, and we look forward to hosting this event again in the future!

Come attend our local Katy-CRyptonite FLL Qualifier!

Team 624 CRyptonite held a practice day for local FLL (FIRST Lego League Middle school robotics) teams. 624 provided 15 FLL teams with mock judging opportunities and referees to guide their game. The mock judging opportunity gave each team a detailed feedback and weaknesses of their project and core values.

Moreover, the FLL teams obtained encouragement and guidance for what direction to head. Student referees, along with Mr. Phil So, the Head Referee, suggested tips for efficient runs and clarified any confusion the teams experienced with rules. The FLL teams were also able to get perspectives on their progress with their robots and exposure to different ideas that will help them improve leading up to the qualifier.

This Saturday, December 7th, at Cinco Ranch Junior High, CRyptonite will be hosting our annual Katy-CRyptonite FLL Qualifier for 28 FLL teams to compete at. The event is open to the public and is a good chance to see competitive robotics in action. We will be having robotics matches from 12PM to 3PM. Come join in on the fun! More information can be found here.

"Sustainability on the RISE" Safety Animation

Each year, CRyptonite’s visual media team produces an original animation to compete in the annual FIRST safety animation challenge. This year, the theme is ‘Sustainability on the RISE’ and animations are due December 5th.

With a 40 second video length limit, teams are to focus on key concepts of sustainability like consumption and production. CRyptonite plans to tackle this problem by addressing it at the individual, community, and global level through the popular “Kurzgesagt” animation style.

Arshon Bozorgi, Team 624’s Director of Visual Media, describes the project as “a complex integration of intricate designs in programs like Adobe Illustrator and After Effects, with a meaningful story that conveys a real message, all strung together in a concise 40 seconds.”

Check out CRyptonite's animation from last year here!
