On the weekend of July 27th, CRyptonite participated in the annual Texas Robot Roundup, hosted in Austin, TX, by team 2158, the ausTIN CANs. We were able to catch up with friends on some of the local robotics teams as well as make new ones, and also appreciated the presence of team 359, the Hawaiian Kids from Waialua, HI.
Having collected the most cans (469) we were seeded 1st for the fun Mentor’s Tournament, a competition in which mentors try their hand at driving the robots from their respective teams. We partnered with our historical alliance partner 1477, however, after a few hard fought matches were not able to keep our running title as mentor tournament champions. Congratulations to 4063, 2468, and 2583 on their victory. Saturday proved to be a different story. We ended up going undefeated throughout qualifications and would place 3rd due to a slight lack of autonomous points behind 3310 and 1477. After a few declines, 3310 Black Hawk Robotics chose us to join them as the number one seed alliance with teams 2848 the All Sparks and 3335 the Cy-Borgs. We cruised through the quarterfinals to meet our challenge hidden in the alliance that we fought previously at the Alamo regional (2468 Appreciate, 2789 TEXplosion, and 4063 TriKzR4Kidz), where we were knocked out. We chose not to repeat history and were able to close out the semifinals 2 – 1 in some very tough matches. The finals proved very exciting but we clinched a win 2 – 0 against an alliance that was seen at IRI the prior weekend as well, consisting of 1477 Texas Torque, 359 the Hawaiian Kids, 4587 Jersey Voltage, and 3735 the Klein Bots. We would like to thank our alliance partners, we couldn’t have asked for better teammates who persevered throughout the eliminations. Also thanks to 2158 for making this event possible, and all the other teams, mentors, and parents that continue to support FIRST.
