Texas Robot Roundup

This past week, Team 624 competed at the 4th annual Texas Robot Roundup, hosted by Team 2158 The AusTIN Cans, at the Austin Convention Center in conjunction with National Instruments Week. The competition brought together 34 teams from across Texas for the weekend to play Aerial Assist one more time. The Roundup opened with a Skills Challenge that meshed mentors with students in the drive team to demonstrate their robots’ capabilities and human player skills. CRyptonite ended up sweeping the board and winning the challenge.Immediately after the skills challenge, qualification rounds took place. After a long 10 qualifications, Team 624 came out being the only undefeated team as the number one seed. As the 1st seed alliance captain, Team 624 invited teams 118 Robonauts, our Alamo Regional alliance partners from Clear Lake, 2789 Texplosion from Manor, and Team 9997 Pearland Robotics from Pearland to join us for the elimination rounds. After we advanced through the quarterfinals in two matches, the semifinals put a real test to the strength of our alliance’s robots. Both Team 624’s and 118’s robots suffered heavy damage, but thanks to the amazing pit crews we were able to keep the robots running and advanced after 3 tough matches. The finals had us meet an alliance led our friends Team 1477, partnered with teams 4587 Jersey Voltage, 3735 Klein Bots, and 5287 Flare. Our alliance eventually took home the gold after two tough matches, making us winners of the Texas Robot Roundup for the third year in a row!We would like to thank all the mentors, volunteers, parents, and sponsors for making this event possible. The team enjoyed it and is looking forward to next year’s Robot Roundup!
