Team 624 again had the honor of being invited to display and discuss FIRST Robotics at the Houston Marine Technology Society (MTS) Charity Barbecue on October 24. It was a major event with numerous deep water service companies presenting their hardware and services to major service users. Team 624 students got an opportunity to demonstrate two robots (Basketball Panzer and Frisbee Thor) and answer many questions from a very interested group of MTS engineers and industry suppliers. The students also got to visit the numerous industry booths and witness and operate some of the newest industry tools, including a tethered deep water Remote Operating Vehicle (ROV). The MTS organization and their charity efforts raise money to help students moving forward towards technology degrees. They have been very supportive of Team 624, providing direct scholarship help to several graduating Team Members, along with direct financial support to the overall team. Team members had a great time and demonstrated how the financial and technical support of the MTS and the overall deep water industry allows Team 624 students to develop the technology skills required in robotic applications that are a large part of the MTS’s core focus.
